Refractive Errors Can Be Divided into 3 Types

Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Myopia occurs when the shape of the eye causes light rays to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it.

This condition is usually caused by:

  • Excessive curvature of the cornea
  • An eyeball that is longer than normal

People with myopia can see nearby objects clearly, but distant objects appear blurry.

Astigmatism

Astigmatism occurs when the eye has an irregular shape, similar to a rugby ball or oval shape.

This causes light entering the eye to focus at different points instead of a single point on the retina, resulting in blurred or distorted vision.

People with astigmatism often experience unclear or unfocused vision at all distances.

Hyperopia (Farsightedness)

Hyperopia is the opposite of myopia.
It occurs when light focuses behind the retina instead of directly on it.

This condition may be caused by:

  • A cornea with too little curvature
  • An eyeball that is shorter than normal

People with hyperopia usually see distant objects clearly but have difficulty focusing on nearby objects.

Laser Vision Correction

Laser Vision Correction is one of the modern treatment methods used to correct refractive vision problems through advanced laser technology.
